LONDON (AP) -Liverpool has fired Kenny Dalglish after the team's eighth-place finish in the Premier League, ending his second spell in charge.
Dalglish was brought to Anfield after a 20-year absence to replace Roy Hodgson in January 2011. Liverpool says his contract was terminated Wednesday by the club's American owners, Fenway Sports Group.
Ending the club's six-year trophy drought was not enough to save Dalglish, despite the League Cup triumph in February that secured Liverpool's return to Europe in the Europa League.
He also took the team to the FA Cup final, but fell short of the owner's target of finishing in the top four as Liverpool finished 17 points behind fourth-place Tottenham.
